Blogging Mini-Tips

It is interesting to see how quickly things can turn around. I am seeing that I can directly impact the numbers of viewers on my blog on a daily basis.

My blog is quite young and I am not dealing with big numbers. Still there are patterns that are emerging. My readers view an average of 1.5 posts. They average 1.3 minutes on a page.

I create the most impact on these numbers by posting. I average five posts a week. I can increase my traffic by posting more often. Each post puts my blog on the WordPress tag pages and that means readers.

I average 26 readers for each post I write. When I post more often, I know that over a period of time each post means about twenty six more readers on Uduzit. When I add an extra post per week, I will see 100 additional visitors as a result.

Yesterday, I wrote a post called,The Sitemeter World Map”. It is about free software programs, and some of their special features.

The post focused on how the world maps of these statistical analysis programs, gives me a view of where my readers are coming from. I did a moment about how we connect using the Internet, and then settled in to a comparison of the visitor maps of each stats program.

When I was proofing this post before publishing, I saw that it had many improvements over my earlier posts. I could see the things I had been advised to do to make my post easier to find. I saw the things I am doing to help the Search engines find my posts.

Here is a list of things I did to make my post more visible to my readers and the Search Engines.

1. I included an image. I bold typed some key words. I created two links in the post to the homepages of the free software programs I was discussing.

I note here that “free software” is a keyword Google has ranked for Uduzit.

When I wander off my keywords, I see my Google ranking falls. To introduce a new subject, I will post several related posts and then move back to a keyword related post. It is great to try new subjects, but I have learned to get back to my main keywords quickly.

2. I also include the name of my blog in my posts by reference. It is a unique name and the Search Engines pick it up. Go ahead, Google the word “Uduzit.” It comes up with pages of results.

Really. Try it. You won’t see how many results this creates unless you check it out. Heck, stick around. Search results for “Uduzit” currently create nine pages of Goggle Search results.

Nine pages and growing!

Connect a unique word to your blog and the Search Engines will crawl it, rank it, and output every result. Those results will ultimately turn in to many Google Search pages for your blog.

3. In this post I shared a couple of simple tips that help improve a blog. I share the ones that I have road tested and found have a good track record for results.

4. I also did two trackbacks with my post. That was a first. Trackbacks link my blog to other sites. Hopefully they will link back on some occasion.

Links with other blogs impacts your Google rankings.

My understanding is that trackbacks are like a note to the other blog publisher. It lets them know you have read their blog, and considered one of their posts important enough to link to from your own blog.

It all sets up a process of blogs linking to blogs with similar subject matter. That is what Google is looking for. You make the Search Engines happy and they show it!

It has been a good day for writing. Give these tips a try. Let me know if you found them useful.

Have a great day.

Change creates ripples. Drama creates waves. I prefer ripples to waves. I can walk on ripples. So can you.

Fat, Sick, and Ugly

One day, I stepped back and took a look at myself. I didn’t need a mirror, I had a firm mental image of my life. It sucked! All my energy was going out, and it felt like nothing was returning. Something in my life needed to change.

I was fat and sick, and my life was ugly. Personally, I felt I was still a good looking guy, just in a larger edition. That worked for awhile, but then the health problems began to make me wonder how much control I had over my body.

The doctors who have helped me through the years have been highly skilled, but they didn’t know how to make me healthy. Their expertise lay in treating symptoms not cause. I trusted them, because their answers worked for awhile.

Then, I had confronted my personal physcian about the revolving door cycle caused by treating symptoms. I left his office vowing I would not return until I had found the answers I sought.

When I returned to my doctor a year later, he called me his success story. What he saw then was only the beginning.

I am a success story. My own.

I found the answers I needed. I followed through on what I learned and saw results. There is ninety pounds less of me now, but I am so much stronger. My health has returned, and with it came happiness.

I take no medications, though I was told I would take them for the rest of my life. I once had days when I would take over thirty pills, involving seven medications. I think I took an asprin a few months ago for something.

My weight loss was a large part of the reason the symptoms of Type II diabetes left my life. I also no longer have angina, and I walk up four flights of stairs daily without being out of breath, or feeling any tightness in my chest.

I had a major heart attack at age 45, and have had two heart by-pass surgury operations. My heart has seven by-pass grafts. My cardiologist said, either his tests were screwed up, or I have had a miracle.

There is no order of difficulty for miracles. I have experienced them, large and small. I can’t guarantee you miracles, but I am very willing to show you the path where I found them.

My answers may not be your answers. I can only say that the path I took to find my answers did work. I am a gatekeeper, with a special key to a path of new answers and hope. I’ll open the gate and show you the path.

The journey, from that point on, is your own.

Learning to ask questions and listen to the answers, is a very special tool in this process.

I will put up a page this weekend with all my posts on the subject of asking questions. You can also use the Search function, if you wish to explore this idea further now.

How to Loose Weight

Wow, it sure appears I am going off subject today, but that’s because you may have missed some earlier topics I discussed here on Uduzit. Actually, this is the fourth post I am doing on the subject of weight loss.

I was tag surfing on WordPress this morning and found a post that hit me in the heart. I know the pain and the confusion of being overweight. I knew it was impacting my health issues. My problem was, I couldn’t find anyone with answers.

Then I started asking questions, and yes, there are a number of posts here on that subject. When I asked questions I got the answers I needed. I just had to hear them.

While I was making my list of questions, I realized I needed information about cause, not symptoms.

Being overweight is about me taking in more calories than I needed. Excess weight is about excess calories, and no the answer is not exercise. The answer is about how many calories reach my stomach.

When I realized the industries that feed the government “facts,” I realized that the presentation of some information may be a bit biased. I looked at the recommended food pyramid for Americans, and started laughing.

I went to the chart on how many calories I was to eat each day for fats and carbohydrates. That was the eye opener. It was recommended I eat 1500 calories a day in carbs, and 500 grams of fat for my weight goals.

Something appeared out of balance. Sugar is like nitro, and fat is like diesel, when we realize we are talking about the fuel that runs our body. Nitro is a quick burn, and diesel fuel is a slow burner. Problem is, excess fuel gets stored, not burned.

I realized that sugar was my nitro. It gave me a quick energy rush, and when I didn’t burn it up, I carried it around. I realized my weight problem started at my mouth, and was caused by how I thought my body should be fueled.

Learning how to get my body running on less sugar became my goal. It was quite easy, and I used the Atkins diet for guidance. Eating a few hundred calories less sugar each day, became an easy task as my metabolism changed to burning fats.

This sounds simple and it is. I just had to learn some new ways to eat, and that has been fun. I eat everything and anything I wish now. My portions also became smaller, and as they did, I became smaller too!

Great stat add-ons for WP blogs

It is easy to see from my post views, that many of you are also interested in who is visiting your blogs. There is a great deal of information available from free stat services, that is not available in the current WordPress stats application.

In my recent posts, there has been a lot of grumbling about the short comings of WordPress stats. I had difficulty finding the programs that were compatible with my hosted blog. I have now found some excellent solutions.

In my search for better stats, I found the programs I was seeking were located under the search term “site counters,” in the WordPress FAQ section.

Two of these stats services are now running on my blog, and they are free.

The first service I installed was Site Meter. The amount of detailed information they provide is astounding. I especially like the colored world map that shows were each reader came from.Knowing two thirds of WordPress visitors are from countries other than the US, this is a great feature.

Site Meter has a guided tour and you can get there from this page by clicking on the Site Meter icon in the right column.

Next, I installed Stat Counter. It calls you blog a Project and provides colored charts and a huge amount of varied data on visitor history. Site Counter seem to focus more on Search Engines and Keyword results as well.

Both Site Meter and Stat Counter provide extensive stats. They are both Internet based stat services that do not slow your blog down. Remember, just install straight HTML code for each. WordPress does not allow the Java Scripts.

The FAQ pages on WordPress are constantly being updated, though some have outdated information. Outdated information can throw you. Forget everything else you read. Just use the widget solution below.

Remember, these instructions work to install the proper HTML code for either of these new WordPress stats services:

  1. You will get the HTML code for your blog once you have set up your account. Copy these few lines of HTML code.

  2. Now go to your Design page, then hit the Widget link for your theme.

  3. Add a new Text Widget to your list of widgets.

  4. Open the new Text Widget.

  5. Put “Site Meter” or “Site Counter,” in the top box of the widget information. In the lower section, paste in your HTML code. Save your changes!

  6. Each service gets its’ own text widget. You can now have more than nine widgets on your WP blog. Nine’s an old rule.

Visit your account, at either website, and it will already be recording site visits. Even yours! Set the cookies they provide for blocking hits from your personal browsers. That way, you don’t throw off your results with your own page views.

There you have it. That is all you have to do to have great stats for your WordPress blog. Just install the widgets, and use both services at the same time. Now, you have mucho information to work with.

All this, while you still have your regular WordPress stats numbers too!
